Solar Cup Boat Building and Racing Competition

 

Solar Cup is a STEAM-focused program in which high school students work in teams to learn engineering, physics, math, technical writing and career-building skills. Student use these new skills to transform an empty boat hull into a fully operational solar powered boat. This innovative water education and environmentally sustainable technology program is funded by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and its member agencies including West Basin Municipal Water District. Additional information on the program is available by contacting Education Coordinator Janel Ancayan at janela@westbasin.infojiniconsulting.com.

2022 Solar Cup Virtual Recognition Event – May 12, 2022

The competition culminated in a virtual awards ceremony on May 12, 2022 where teams were recognized for first, second and third place honors in each of the competition’s seven challenges. Among those winning teams include West Basin sponsored teams, who excelled by showcasing their problem-solving abilities, artistic design skills and engineering knowledge.
